954 YEARS OF SULUKULE IN ISTANBUL

954 YEARS OF SULUKULE | TRAILER from Jinnah Komatsu on Vimeo.

Sulukule

ROMAN RUHU | GYPSY SOUL

Roman Ruhu is a music documentary dealing with a marginalized part of turkish and every society but shown under a positive perspective with the objective of highlighting and capturing the passion and unique talent of gypsy musicians. All this is just a humble effort made without the support of any production company and without any contribution from any professional technical team. The only resources used are a camera and my unlimited admiration for gypsy rhythms. Most of the shots are full of tension due to the fact that during the shooting I was always submitted to the huge temptation to quit filming and just start dancing… Sulukule area of Istanbul – a theme that could have been touched on here is purposely absent only because of my belief that a few minutes would be inadequate to dedicate to such a myth…Special thanks to Selim Sesler who was the main catalyst, the inspiration for such an attempt…Roman Ruhu is dedicated to the sweet crying of the clarinet and all those who have honored music since the day they were born…By Eleni Petropoulou
